When to go to a Doctor   Most cases of jaundice are normal but sometimes it indicate an underlying medical condition. Contact your doctor if you notice the jaundice spreads or becomes more intense, baby develops a fever over 100°F, your baby’s yellow coloring deepens, your baby feeds poorly, appears listless or lethargic, and makes high-pitched cries.                         In some instances jaundice level may increase which may require treatment.  So to know the Jaundice level blood test is to be done. If the result is beyond certain level depending on day on which it appears & other factors further observation or treatment at home or hospital is advised by the Doctor. At times it may become necessary to repeat the blood testing to know the progress of jaundice thus subjecting the baby to pain. What is Newborn Jaundice: It  is  an a yellowish discoloration of a skin of the baby after birth which is more often a  physiological  phenomenon but needs blood testing to know the jaundice level if it is increasing or decreasing. It occurs in more than 60% of term and 70% of preterm infants, peaking at 3–5 days of life and usually resolving by 2 weeks of age.
